Now I remember a some stories my Mom told me when I was a very young boy. I don't know how old I was, but I must have been very young.. They made such an impression that I never forgot them. My Dad had a fish pond in our backyard in Chicago. It had Goldfish and a few frogs swimming around in it. Naturally I was always trying to catch the frogs. So here is one story:
Obey Mother
It was nap time and Mom must have worried that Hank and I would fall into the pond and drown so she started to tell the story. She said, "Once Upon a Time, There was a family in the country and they had a nice backyard. It was a pretty yard, with flowers and a sandbox and a swing. In the yard their Father had the day off work one day and he dug a fishpond in their yard.. Their Father put Goldfish and frogs in the pond. He put water lillys in the pond so the fish would have shade. Everyone loved to watch the fish and frogs. But the water was deep so the boy's Mother told her son, "Don't go too close to the water. Listen to your Mother and Father. Don't try to catch the fish or the frogs."
So do you know what the boys did? Well, when their Mom and Dad weren't looking they would try to catch the frogs.. They would lean way over the side, and one day the older boy started to slip into the water . He tried to grab a stick and couldn't reach it. He began to slip into the pond, the water was almost over his head and he heard a voice.
And who do you think it was?" Well I answered right away. "I know, his Mom caught him." and Mom said, "No son, it was his Guardian Angel. His Guardian Angel was a very young and beautiful angel. She said, very softly, "why didn't you listen to your Mother?" Now the boy began to lie he started to say his Mom didn't tell him that, but the Angel knew better. The boy began to cry because the water from the pond was getting in his mouth, and his Guardian Angel said "If you boys promise to listen to your Mother from now on, I'll help pull you out of the water. The boys promised his angel and they never disobeyed their Mother again.
Another story
Once Upon a Time there were two boys that never listened to their mother. She told them every time they left their home, "Always stay together and whatever you do, don't talk to strangers. And never get into a car with them. They could hurt you. They might even talk real nice to you, but then the stranger would hurt you."
Well one day the two boys were walking home from a park and a car pulled up next to them. A man opened the car window and called to the boys. He said, "boys do you want a ride home." They remembered what their Mother said, and told the man no. But then the man talked real nice to them. He told them he would buy them lunch and then buy them ice cream desert. Now the older boy told his brother, "well that sounds ok. Maybe we can trust this man", and they got in the car.. The man drove them to a forest and took them out of the car and tied them up to a tree. The boys began to cry and the bad man was laughing at them. He told the boys he was leaving, but he would be back soon. "You will be sorry boys. I have a good way to hurt you two." Then he left them at that dark scarry place. The boys were crying because they were tied to a tree and couldn't get loose.
Just then a bright light appeared, and a pretty young lady, dressed in white, walked to them. She said, "Why did you talk to that stranger, and why did you get in the car with him? I thought your Mother warned you not to talk to strangers." The boys tried to lie. They told her, "We thought we knew him." And the lady said, "Well if you are going to lie, I'll just have to leave you here with the bad man." The boys begged her to help, they said they would never disobey their Mother again. The lady said, "I am your gaurdian angel, If you promise to listen to your mother I will help you escape." Both boys promised her that they would never ever disobey Mother again, and the angel untied the ropes and led the boys back to their home. After that day, the boys always listened to their mother.
Another story
Well Once Upon a Time there were two young boys living with their Mother and Father. The boys were playing with matches. The Mother thought she smelled smoke and she asked the boys if they were playing with matches. Now those two boys knew they were in trouble, so they said, "No, we wouldn't play with fire." After Mother left the room both boys felt happy. They lied and didn't get in trouble. But later just before bed time the older couldn't talk. He had lost his voice. The father called a doctor to examine the boy, but couldn't find the problem. The whole next day the boy couldn't talk.
That night when he went to bed, a bright light shinned in his bedroom. A beautiful young lady was standing in the light. She looked at the boy and said, " I noticed you can't talk, do you know why?" And the boy looked at her and shook his head,no. She said, "Well I'll tell you. You can't speak because you told a bad lie to your Mother. That was terrible. You know you should never lie, especially never lie to your Mother. You are a big boy now, and you should know that lying is naughty."
The boy bowed his head and began to cry. The lady looked at him and said, "I am your gaurdian angel, and I'm here to help you. You must promise me that you will never lie to your Mother again." The boy shook his head, yes. Then the angel said, "You can speak now. Promise me you will not lie to Mother again. The boy began to speak, "Yes, yes I promise I'll obey Mom and never lie to her again." And he never lied to his Mother of Father again.
That's the kind of stories my Mom told me as a child.
