No Complaints

I believe that I had a very good life. While I was a young boy, my Mom was at home all day. She always had a breakfast of oatmeal or foriena, waffles or pancakes or just toast with jelly. Lunch was usually soup and a sandwich. My bedroom was in the attic and it was a nice, clean room, that I shared with my brother. We were fortunate to have clean clothes and warm clothes for the winter months. The schools I attended were good schools. The teachers in grade school were always helpful in every manner. The high schools were also good schools with some of the best teachers.

During my early years my brother Hank and I were free souls. We were allowed to travel throughout the city withot any supervision. We spent days just walking through the city streets and alleys. We went to many city parks to play on swings, slides and hung on the bars for hours. We spent days at the forest preserves, at the Desplaines River, at Lake Michigan and were fortunate enough to go to the movies most Sundays by ourselves. I honestly can't remember a time when we had a parent or older brother or sister accompamy us in our travels.

Hank and I were very lucky to have healthy bodies. We were rarely sick. It was a time when there were many scary sickneses such as hooping cough, polio, scarlet fever etc. During high school I always had a good job that paid well. I wasn't involved in sports, but did enjoy fishing, swimming and hunting. My two years in the army were spent in Germany. Even though I got in trouble often in the service, I still enjoyed my time there.

I was very lucky to marry a woman that was more than a wife. She gave me many years of happeness and companionship. Thee was none greater. I was very fortunate. We had years of enjoyment. We had our home five great kids, a farm with horses, cows, pigs, chickens, goats and many other animals. We were always lucky to have used cars. I was fotunate enough to be self employed, and usually earned enough money to pay all our bills. We always had enough food, clothing for summer and the cold winters. Fortunately, our health and our children's health was very good.

Now, without my wife, I still am very blessed with my health, my kids, and good friends I have minor age related health problems, and so far I can enjoy my simple life. I have been very fortunate during my life here on this earth. It's been an enjoyable, comfortable, healthy life. No complaints from me.
