Our Friends:

We didn’t have many friends during our lifetime, however the ones Rose and I had were a treasure. I wasn’t a very sociable person and Rose wasn’t either.

I’m forgetting our old friends names so I decided to write them down before the wind blows them away.

These are not just neighbors that we knew. These are and were good friends with.

My absolute best friend was my Irish wife Rosemary. The greatest friend of all.

My sons were also my great friends and still are, and that has to include Mitch, Lauren and the great Tom Andrews and his wife Rose.

And I have to say, my brother Hank was also a good friend.

Tom Andrews and Rose were the greatest, fun loving people I knew.

Tom worked for my brother Hank for a couple years when he was a young boy, and later I hired him.

He worked for me until he joined the army. We were friends until he died.

Nick and Arline Adams, very good friends for many years. Nick was a retired navy man.

During his time in the navy he cut hair. So, he cut my hair and my sons hair whenever he came to our home.

Once, while he was cutting Kurts' hair, his electric clippers quit working.

Nick had me get the Horse clippers from the barn, and he finished Kurts' haircut with that. Kurt was not too happy.

Renard and Marianne in-laws, but also very good friends.

Joe and Pearl Limbacher another janitor and his wife.

Many a morning I sat at their table with a cup of coffee, discussing all the world problems.

Years ago, janitors pulled garbage and burned most in the incinerator.

If he saw fresh food thrown out he would bring it home for Pearl and him to eat.

Like Turkeys and hams after holidays or parties.

They lived in a small basement apartment near Diversey and Broadway in Chicago.

During summer he grew a garden and when beans, carrots and other crops that could be dried and eaten later.

He put them on the exposed heating pipes in his apartment.

He also put fish he caught at the lake there to dry also, Old country German custom.

Yea, good friends, but I never ate at his home.

There was our good friend John Coy who many of our other friends disliked.

But Rosemary and I considered he and his wife Gloria good friends.

We bought our first pony , Mariah, from John. Rose would buy bread for our horses from them.

While loading our station wagon to the top with loaves of bread,

Gloria always picked out good sweets for the kids to eat.

Gene Neddelton and Terry, his daughter.

They were good friend, but Gene was not Rose's friend.

He talked me into buying a pony.

For two years while I was in the army, I had two good buddies.

Eugene Burke from the south side of Chicago, and Vito Fazio an Italian from NJ.

Another soldier friend was Sargent Spargo.

He served in the Korean war in the mid 1950s at eighteen years old.

At that time, he was the youngest 1st Sargent to serve in the US army tank corp .

He served with me in Germany as Communication chief for a while.

He died in combat in the nineteen sixties during the Vietnam war.

Pat and Maureen Connolly. Very Good friends that we spent many hours with them.

Great fun, good Irish people.

Can not forget Vee Horton with her farm and horses.

Pete and Sue Hertel and also Carla and Andy; great friends and neighbors.

Jim and Carol Curry and Shirley and Ron Espig were close friends. We visited often when we were young

Gene and Joan Bergerren good friends from Kildare Ave. Roses' old neighborhood.

Rosemary’s close friend was Diane Morici. They were close friends during grade school, high school and kept in touch the rest of their lives.

Ray Schumer our fairer. He trimmed and shod our horses.

Always had a few jokes to tell whenever he came to work.

A great story teller and fun to be around.

Fred Mathews who I worked for, who I have known for over fifty years.

Wally. I do not remember his last name. He had a paint store on Irving park and Broadway.

I purchased materials from him. He was a good man.

Often, when boys moved here from the south, they would go to his store for paint,

and they would ask Wally if he knew anyone that needed a helper.

Wally usually loaned them a few dollars, and sometimes he asked me to hire a boy for a few days or weeks until they got on their feet.

Wally had a big heart.

Harry Langer and Jim Burns were partners.

They bought buildings in the New Town area of Chicago and refurbished them.

I became their floor sander, and as time passed, their friend.

Rudy Garcia worked with me sanding floors for a few years.

He was a good guy. Never could learn English. When I first started working with him he spoke no English,

but we had a lot of fun trying to converse. He could understand pretty good,

but just could not speak it and I could understand most of his Spanish,

but could not speak much Spanish.

Good friend, Mike and Susan Dicello in Libertyville, Waukegan Harbor. and His cousin Tom who moved to Florida.

Russells' best friend Jim and Chris Turnbull . Our whole family friends.

Brenda and Larry Palmer in La Harpe, Il.

Bob and Ann Trauscht-- across the street.

Bill Oneal, one of our customers and friend.

Al, John, and in Blandensville, Il.

Charlie Parnell, oh well, you know Charlie. He stopped by my house many times.

Rita Eastburg school teacher and good friend.

Dr. Maniquis our family doctor and family friend for 45 years.

The Richardson family, Chick and Renee.

Dr. Dalitch our vet. For 49 years. He took care of all the medical problems of our horses.

goats and cows. Always a serious person.

Russell Korth neighbor and childhood friend.

Russell, Hank and I chased around the city together until I began high school.

We remained friends until his death.

But there were others that were fun.

Shirley Macalum.

Greg and Julie Rochocki good friends at DEC.

Letti and Mario from Waukegan .

Bill Shack, One of Nick’s good friends.
